A Guide to Winter Formal Dressing
January 10, 2024
While “Wedding Szn” may not officially start until the Spring, you may find yourself invited to a couple of black-tie events this winter—a ball or gala perhaps? While we love any opportunity to dress up, it's always a bit daunting figuring out what to wear to a particularly formal event, especially if it's below 50 degrees.
Thankfully, you’re in luck! There’s no shortage of winter-appropriate dresses available to rent on BARO, and we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorites that will guarantee some serious ogling.
Picture this: you’re invited to a gala that Leonardo Dicaprio is hosting to raise awareness for climate change. For your sake, I hope this is true. A gala requires something formal, but you can still have fun with the print or color. We’d recommend going with this gorgeous blue beaded Dana Foley Gown (available to rent on BARO). To give the dress more of a wintery vibe, we’d recommend styling it with a dark closed toe shoe and jacket. Not only will you look like the ocean Leo is trying to save, but you’ll be doing your part by borrowing over buying!
SAVE THE OCEANS!
Have you ever been invited to a White Tie event? I sure haven’t! However, if you find yourself the recipient of an invitation to one this winter you should know that the host is expecting you to show up in a floor-length gown, preferably in a luxurious fabric like silk or satin. Imagine if Kate Middleton invited you to an event at her house (Buckingham Palace). While I shockingly don’t know Kate personally, I have no doubt she would absolutely love this silky Alexander Wang Dress (available to rent on BARO).
A Dress Fit for a Royal Soiree
Our favorite hack for winter events is to wear black because god damn does everyone looks good in a long black gown. This Marcella gown (available to rent on BARO) is complete with sleeves to keep you warm, but the cut-out in the chest still makes it sexy.
A Black-Tie Winter Wedding
When it comes to winter formal dresses, nothing quite says “chicest attendee” like this deep burgundy ruched Simon Miller number (available to rent on BARO). Not only is it sophisticated and sexy, but I would be remiss not to mention the fact that you are guaranteed to stay nice and toasty with these long sleeves and high neckline. I would style this dress with a pair of strappy black heels and some statement earrings, and *chef’s kiss* you’re good to go!
