Clean and Clear
Your photos should accurately show the fit of the item so that users know what to expect should they borrow it—always have photos on form, never on hangers! Make sure the backdrop is clean, and that the item itself looks wear-ready (give it a steam beforehand!). Use vertical shots to get the full picture!
Lighting
Natural light is always the way to go when taking photos of your items. Not only does it give the most accurate idea of color and material, it also just brightens everything up! Avoid dark spaces and flash if possible, and definitely no edited or filtered photos.
All About the Details
Make sure to showcase any interesting details about the item—beading, patterns, cutouts, etc. This also means showing any small issues the garment may have, such as small stains or frays. These should also be called out in the description!
Styling
We find that photos of a completely styled look better help future borrowers envision what the garment could look like in the real world. It’s helpful to include photos of how you’ve worn or would wear the item using things like shoes, accessories, and more. You can even post the item styled in multiple ways—have fun with it!
On Site Shots
Photos of you wearing the garment at an event are a great way to show how the item will look out in the world and completely styled. It’s also a great way to communicate your personality and energy and help borrowers envision themselves in the piece. Solo shots work best here, but if it is a group shot, make sure to specify which item it is you’re lending!
Mirror Pics
We love a good mirror pic! They also do a great job of showcasing an item if you don’t have anyone around to help take a photo. Just make sure to pick a mirror that is big enough to get the full outfit, and that the background is clean and the lighting is clear.
Product Photos
Sometimes it’s helpful to include an image of the item from the brand’s website, especially if your own photos are limited. However, we strongly advise against making a product shot the cover photo of the garment as it can sometimes be misleading on items like fit and color. It also makes it less personal!
Photo Types
Remember that potential borrowers want to see what the item will look like on a real body, so we never recommend posting photos of the garment on a hanger or laid flat. Here are a couple of ways we’d recommend getting the shot.
💥 Pro Tip: We like to think of Baro photos as an extension of our social media posts. The more personality you can showcase through your photos, the more potential borrowers will be able to picture themselves in the piece! Think of your Baro closet as a collection of your best OOTD shots.
